Utah State Developmental Center

Adult Services

The Adult Services are comprised of three residential buildings each having six to eight apartments, and four twin homes comprising eight apartments. These buildings serve approximately 145 male and female individuals of varioius ages and abilities. Some of these individuals have good physical mobility and have independence in some of their daily living activities, however, most of the individuals require close supervision due to their medical and/or behavioral conditions.

The individuals residing in these buildings participate in activities of their choosing at the Developmental Center and in nearby communities, including work, day program activities, sports, exercise, fishing, dining out, movies, shopping, etc. Many individuals participate in planning and preparing their meals.

Individuals in Adult Services receive extensive medical support from on site nursing with more pervasive medical support immediately available. They also receive many other professional services including: Psychology, Social Work, Music, Recreation, Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapy.

On at least an annual basis individuals in our Adult Programs are considered for placement outside of the Developmental Center. The individual's and guardian's desire for placement are considered along with evaluations by the individual's professional team. If through this process it is found that the individual's quality of life will be enhanced and medical needs can be addressed outside of the Developmental Center, then professional team members contact the Division of Services for People with Disabilities. Both USDC and DSPD staff help the individual and guardian pursue placement with a Medicaid Waiver Provider.
