Forensic Services
Forensic Services are comprised of one security building and secure day programming that serve male individuals ordered to the Deveplopmental Center by the Department of Human Services. A majority of the individuals admitted to these services have had a criminal charge filed against them, but have been found not competent by the courts. Others have been sent to Forensic Services for treatment of severe maladaptive behavior.
The individuals in Forensic Services receive supports from many professions including: Psychology, Medical, Nursing, Social Work, Music, Recreation, Physical and Occupational Therapies. Direct Care Staff supervise and support the individuals throughout all of their daily activities.
Individual input is encouraged at all levels of training that focus on responsibility and accountability. Individuals residing in the Forensics Building participate in many Developmental Center activities of their choosing while being closely supervised. Developmental Center activities include work, day training, entertainment, sports, exercise, crafts, etc. The activities individuals in the Forensic Program participate in away from the Developmental Center are extremely limited, highly scrutinized, and intensely supervised.
Through training programs, behavior management programs, and after an extended period of stabalization, individuals residing in the Forensics Program can move to an environment with fewer restrictions at the Developmental Center. If the person demonstrates ability to manage his behavior appropriately over time, discharge to a qualified provider outside of the Developmental Center would be pursued.
